Public Health Introduction and background

Our institution educates public health on three faculties of Semmelweis University: Faculty of Medicine (FM), Faculty of Dentistry (FD), and Faculty of Pharmacy (FP). The aim of our discipline is to give a comparative description of the burden of diseases, injuries, infections and risk factors. Our education is giving an overview of this multidisciplinary field of medicine while focusing on preventive measures and the global environmental changes, which may influence our health. The information in epidemiology is available about morbidity and mortality rate of infectious and non-infectious diseases in all regions of the world. This educational framework is integrating the analysis and assessment of etiological factors of different diseases, which may cause premature death or disability of population living in industrialized or developing countries. We focus on the international situation and if it is possible we add some national specialties (for students coming from Norway, Israel, Greece, Sweden etc). The mandatory lectures and practices describe theories and investigative methods dealing with the complexity of diseases and factors influencing human health. Medical students take two written test after each semester they studied to prove their knowledge while students from the other two faculties take an oral exam after a single semester. Besides the compulsory classes students can participate on our elective courses as well.
